Bound To is a love letter from Black women to Black men and from Black men to Black women. In this piece, a single durag tail connects two heads facing in opposite directions. That cloth becomes the invisible string, the reminder of a bond that cannot be severed, even as society pushes us apart.

This work confronts the narratives that pit us against one another, the media that tells Black men success means leaving Black women behind, the voices that convince Black women they are unloved and unprotected. Yet, it also remembers history, when in the face of Jim Crow, segregation, and systemic violence, we stood united and built legacies that carried us forward.

Bound To asks the question: are we bound to separation, or bound to love? Are we bound to repeating division, or to choosing each other again and building the kind of legacy that endures?
